This week I'm (Vivienne) finalizing my 12 year old daughter's confirmation plans. It's a Danish tradition that in grade 7, the kids are confirmed at the state church that they are of age. It's more of a coming of age tradition rather than a religious rite, although it is held in the local Lutheran church. In a way, it had bothered me because I am Seventh-day Adventist but my husband is Danish and it's his tradition. But Isabella chose to do this along with her class, so we had been dress shopping for the perfect white dress and I'm in the process of making invitations for the party we are holding for family the day before the service. It's fun to see her so excited. I'll post photos and layouts eventually as it comes...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

It's been a while. But, Happy New Year!!! and we hope your holidays were wonderful! Mine (Vivienne) was involved with moving. I spent the whole of December painting up the old place and packing. In Denmark, you have to leave the old place the same as when you came in. We were trying to save the cost of professional painters, which are ridiculously expensive here (any labor is actually), so since I've had experience with 5 other homes being painted, I took on the job and let me tell you, my arm was about to fall off. I did not only the walls but all the doors and paneling!!! And, happy to say, the landlord accepted it and is giving us back our security deposit. At our last apartment, they didn't accept my paintjob and hired professional painters so we ended up paying for it both times!!! And, we are now finally moved in and I'm out from under all the boxes. Just the office left since its the place we throw everything into currently. I'm very happy to be in my new home. It's a bit smaller (less cleaning!!!) but it certainly is warmer (our old place was old and drafty and too large) and suits us better.

And now, Vanessa is starting to pack and she is moving!!! So I hope to be able to hold down the fort as she did for me!!!

These journaling cards can be used either digitally or in hybrid form. If you are doing Project Life, you can print these up on your printer at home and adhere onto cardstock, or print on photo paper (which is heavier) and use a CD marker or permanent marker for your journaling to insert into the plastic pockets of your book. These are useful for a number of things. You could even print up a stack for everyday memos!

The solids are slightly embossed for a terrific texture for your layouts!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope all of you have a fabulous day. My family is postponing Thanksgiving. Since we live in Denmark, we don't have an actual holiday so I wait til the weekend to do the dinner. It just seems hard to do it when its a normal school/work day. BUT, I am looking forward to Black Friday internet sales so I can order stuff for Christmas (I just have it shipped to my mom!!!).

About Giraffes, Tutorials and Freebies...

Today we have a brand new digital stamp set at The Digichick, Giraffes. Aren't they cute? All 3 of those guys were hand-drawn by the super talented Yvonne Banham and then made their way onto digital land by us. The stamps come in .abr, .png, and layered .psd and .tiff formats.

For yet another idea of what to do with your digital stamps, I have put together a second video tutorial. This tutorial will show you an easy way to turn your digital stamps into a worn, distressed digital stickers. These stickers are a great way to add some grunge to your kit elements. They also work great for making artsy cards and well, just about anything else you set your mind to. Here is what my final stamp will look like:

To help you along the tutorial, I have created a set of distressed brushes that you can use for giving your digital stamps/stickers a worn look. (click image to download)

For this tutorial I have also used a texture from the very talented Caleb found at Lost and Taken. His stuff is amazing, so make sure to go check him out!

Video Tutorial: Coloring Digital Stamps

Today I'll be venturing out of my comfort zone and actually let you all know what I sound like (eeek). Let me starting by saying that this will be my very first video tutorial ever and well... I hope it is useful, otherwise you can watch it as comic relief :).

Our tutorial today is on how to color digital stamps. The reality of this is that there are as many ways to color them as you can imagine in your mind. You can even print the outlines out and color them by hand if you like the feel of pastels or coloring pencils and ink. I will be showing you the method I have used on the sample piece of our "It's for the birds" set.

Here is what the final result will look like:

For this tutorial you will need to choose: 1. a color swatch from which you would like to work (or you can use the default one on Photoshop) and 2. a set of watercolor/paintstroke brushes. Below you will find a few different links for both.

Digital Stamps and Winter Solstice!

We have two products out again this week, the first being a digital stamp made from Yvonne Banham's illustrations of four birds...

A note of explanation, these illustrations used to be part of DigiScrapWarehouse as CU. We closed our store there as it was difficult maintaining two different stores. What we are doing now, is keeping it all under one roof and adding in the possibility of using these images as stamps. We created layered PSD masks to the files to make it easier for you to play with. So you get PNG files, ABR file, and layered PSD files with a PU/CU/Web friendly licensing in one purchase. Also, we heard from several customers that you would tutorials for coloring these line drawings??? Be on the lookout for this!!!

We are so sad that it is our last week at ScrapMatters. We have really enjoyed being on the design team for the month of October and here is our last offering there:

So, we have two new releases for you...one at the DigiChick and one at ScrapMatters where we are guesting for the month of October. First up at the DigiChick, we created a kit designed for those yoga layouts or maybe a "learn to balance" layout. It could even fit an "I am..." theme or challenge:

Vivienne's layout used mostly Return to Oz and Illuminated Journal 3 kits and Vanessa used the Found Art kit. We loved creating the gameboards...we really found the DigiDares to be a fun challenge and something that gets us out of our designing/layout ruts!!! I'm heading out to the west coast this weekend to spend some time with my in-laws. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Did the Wizard of Oz movie scare you as much as it scared me, watching it as a child? I can remember how scared I was watching it and how much I actually loved watching it even knowing it was scary!!! We've returned to Oz in this kit for our 2nd week at Scrap Matters and its on sale!

I have to admit, this was a tough kit for us to figure out in our style and when it did finish up and finally previewed, it came out a lot better than we expected and now we are very pleased with the look of it. We hope you like it too...our CT sure did:

On a quick note, did you know how OZ was named? Baum, the author, was looking around his office and saw a file divider with O-Z on it...you know, the A-N and O-Z files??? Well, that became the Oz....funny...enjoy your weekend!

Being that as Vi said Alissa loves cats, Van Gogh and music... I just thought it was appropriate that I finally used our work to make her something special for her room. I plan on having these print and put in 8x10 shadow boxes to hang above her bed. I will also be printing a photo of our own cat to go in between these two ;)

Do you DigiDare? Have you tried? This is such a fun and great idea. For me, its hard to stop for a minute and do something else that is not related to designing or working (I also work as a copywriter/marketer IRL) and DigiDares made me do that. Stop and think and do something fun within a guideline in scrapping. It actually made me scrap pages!!! Or at least, jump start it. So, now, what's been fun is that our team has been daring each other to do this too!!! And now, for the last weeks, we've had winners coming from OUR TEAM!!! Last night's was Vanessa's night, winning the random draw and this was her layout:

New Charity Kit

Today, we are introducing to you our Charity Kit, to benefit SEWA, a non profit organization that helps the street children of Nepal. The kit looks like this:

This kit was inspired by my (Vivienne's) neighbor in Holland. We were very lucky to live next door to Harry and Marlene, two very special people. Harry is a tour guide to Nepal and Tibet, but to a select group of physically challenged people. He takes handicapped people on fantastic tours that would be normally difficult to manage (his site here). But he does more than that. He also provides aid to an orphanage in Katmandu and helped to develop a hotel that provides amenities to the handicapped travelers. His and Marlene's selflessness is amazing to see. I am so happy to call myself a friend. So, this kit was developed with his images of the Himalayan area.

And here is what our team did with it.

Remember that in purchasing this kit, all proceeds (after fees) will be sent to SEWA...to help the street children.

So I'm kinda back. DH has been home for the last week and also will be the next week as his company is on summer shutdown. We were in Copenhagen for a few days to take in some shopping and museums, probably the last bit of historical sightseeing for the girls as they are getting too old for this kind of thing. DH and I still like it but they are starting to resent it. ROFL. We are due to go on a sail trip for a few days next week. We spent some time in Helsingor or Hamlet's castle and I took tons of photos with thoughts of a new kit in mind.

Did you see the DigiDares lately? Cynthia (on our CT) and I took part in a dare a couple weeks ago. And both of us won! She totally rocked the dare and won the grand prize and I happily took the random prize. Here is Cynthia's layout:

We were to use a photobooth strip in the layout and isn't her layout to die for? It's totally impressive how she can make a digital page so realistic! Here is my paltry offering for the dare:

D Day...

Today we leave for Brazil. It's our first time flying with all 4 of the kids. I am really looking forward to the visit and spending our summer with family. The girls are beyond excited and have made plans that could last them a full year instead of 2 months. Alissa plans on going to school, taking ballet and piano lessons and "teaching" at my cousin's English school down there. She is the only kid I know that thinks about all this commitment over vacation. I might have to break it to her that she will be spending most of her time PLAYING like any other 7 year old. She might be disappointed LOL.

Maya on the other hand has already warned me that she will be getting just as spoiled as she did last year while there (last year they went just the two of them with my mom). She has asked me if I'm aware that "while she is in Brazil" she gets to watch a movie EVERYDAY and sleep wherever she wants (meaning sleepover at a cousins' house of her choice), and have gum everyday as well as carrot cake in the middle of the afternoon with rights to desert after dinner as well. Yeah, that's my 4 year old, she knows what she wants and she warns you ahead of time so you don't get any ideas of trying to spoil her fun.

In preparation for the trip I have spent the last week between packing and talking to Vi about what we could do to leave some stuff prepared. Packing went well, slowly but surely and now I sit here staring at 8 29" suitcases and thinking how are we going to deal with that plus a stroller plus 4 kids around. The big girls will be taking the train with my FIL to the airport tomorrow while we drive down with the babies and luggage, then FIL will drive the truck back. That was the only way we could make it there without taking multiple cars.

As far as ViVa goes... The two of us have worked like crazy the past few days and I don't know what I would do without that girl. The good news is that we HAVE gotten some cool stuff done and I'm ready to show you a little sneak peek at what is in store this week. The best part is that we are not alone. The girls at TDC have a surprise for you on Thursday and if you like our little preview here, you will be blown away about all the gorgeousness coming your way this Thursday.

So it's good-bye for now, I'm hoping to be working a bit while there but just enough to keep in touch. I want to enjoy my time with family but most of all relax. I gotta take advantage of all the free babysitting we will be getting kwim?

Tuesday Inspiration

So, we had another long weekend here in Denmark. Ascension Day, on Monday, and everything was closed and I was very happy for the extra day to do nothing. My SIL had a birthday party and I helped with the food and I learned a lesson about wearing high heels when you have to walk so much! My hips were quite sore afterwards and it didn't help when DH decided it was time to clip the hedge (it did need it!). I did a little bit of it while he was taking a break (we have a LOT of hedge). Yep, pretended the hedge was him and almost lopped the whole thing off! HEEEE HEEEE! My arms are sore now. Can we say, I never excercise?

June is a busy month for both Vanessa and I. We're starting with each of our 2nd daughters having birthday. My Isabella has one on Friday and Vanessa's Maya has one on Sunday. PLUS, my friend Yvonne Banham (the illustrator/doodler) is coming up from Holland to visit us (along with husband and daughter) here in Denmark for this long weekend. Yep, its a holiday today, Ascension Day, so everyone is off Thursday to Sunday! So excited to have this time with friends and family.

ViVa Artistry has been busy too!! We have a new collection, one perfect for putting together family histories or for memory books. We were inspired by the paintings of Mary Cassett who specialized in stunning portraits of mother and child and used such softness and light in her art.

Purse Giftbox Tutorial

I made this little gift box to put money into for a graduation gift! And it uses Basic Grey's Sophie Starter Pack available at the DigiChick HERE.

I used the pattern made available at splitcoasstampers.com, HERE.

Here is a list of what you will need:
1 white heavy cardstock
1 set of sticky velcro
gluestick
2 clothespins
1 sheet photo paper

1. Make a 3x6 inch rectangle in Photoshop and clip one of the papers onto it. Make another rectangle 1/2x7 inch and clip another paper onto it (this is the handle). Print on regular printer paper.

2. Print one of the flower rub-ons from the Sophie Starter Pack onto photo paper (for its thick weight).

3. Print the purse template onto regular paper and using this template, cut out the white cardstock. Cut out a handle from the cardstock.

4. Use the template to cut out the purse flap out of the printed rectangles.

5. Adhere the printed purse flap onto the white cardstock. To facilitate the folds, score gently on the fold lines. Adhere the sides with the gluestick and use the two clothespins to hold the sides togther until it dries.

6. Adhere the printed handle onto the white cardstock handle and attach to the purse on the sides, again using the clothespins to aid in keeping it attached until the glue dries.

7. Attach the sticky velcro onto the front and flap of the purse.

8. Finally, cut out the flower rub-on and adhere to the front of the purse.

Enjoy your purse!!!

En Pointe and freebie

We are happy to show you a new collab we have with the wonderful Cheryl aka gonewiththewind aka as Fiddle-dee-dee Designs. We have been good buddies with Cheryl ever since we started as CTMs together for Christina Renee. We have always been in awe of her scrapping skills (as probably the rest of the scrapping world) and even more so once she started designing those amazing templates of hers. Cheryl has been with us as CTM since we first started (thanks for hanging with us through it all and always supporting us, sweetie!) and we were so happy when she debuted as a template designer chick at TDC with us. This is a very exciting project and I hope you girls are as thrilled with it as we are. So here it is... En Pointe.
ps. If you look at the previous post you will find additional glitter, mask and cluster packages as well as some inspiration from our wonderful CT.

And here is a special freebie for you. It's a purse printable for you to make. I love this and will be using it to keep my girl's recital tickets and pocket photos as a keepsake. You can fill it with a small gift for someone or whatever else your heart desires. ENJOY!!!

FREEBIE HERE

Here is a mini tutorial for it as most of it is self explanatory.

You will need:

Printable above

flower

sticky velcro

glue (not gluestick)

photo paper to print on

clothespins

craft knife

1. Print the 2 sheets in the download on heavy photo paper (almost a light cardstock).

2. Cut out the purse, handle pieces, and button.

3. Score on the folded lines very gently with craft knife. I use a ruler to cut against for straighter lines.

4. Fold the purse on the scored lines. Apply adhesive on the tabs closest to the side pieces and stick it together. Use the clothes pins to hold it in place until the glue dries. I did not use glue stick as its a heavier paper and needs a stronger fixative.

5. Glue the handle pieces together. I like a stronger handle, therefore, 2 pieces. Use a paper cutter to make straighter cuts.

6. Glue a flower next to the dancer on the button.

7. Apply the velcro to the inside flap of the purse.

8. Glue the button to the outside flap of the purse.

PRETTY Inspiration

So, DST got bought out yet again. Hopefully, it will revitalize the forum. We shall see. And how many of you have gone to Akizo's site and donated to the Japanese Red Cross? Head over there AND even if you don't get the kit, DONATE!!! On that note, we are also going to be part of a charity collab to benefit Japan. It will be up soon so keep an eye for it.

Art Deco kit at the DigiChick!

Today's release at the DigiChick was crazy fun! We decided to do a semi altered, semi historic kit filled with Art Deco elements and papers. I (Vivienne) have a love of the Art Deco period with it's strong clean lines and glitter and sophistication. So for altered designers or for those who love period styles, here it is:

Shabby Pickle Release!

So you know we are at the Shabby Pickle and what a fun place to be! Here is what we did for this week's release...

This kit works for those Earth Day photos from the kids' school activities but also, it works if you just happen to love natural papers and elements. We wanted a handmade look but in natural fibers with a greener type of color scheme perfect for the spring that is just around the corner.

Fabricology

Have you seen the altered books created out of fabric or textiles? This is our theme this week at the DigiChick! Fabricology...

And we did a collaboration with this kit with our CT Eryn Herbert who does the most amazing layouts and we are also in awe of her shadow work. Eryn created Quick Pages for you with Fabricology as well as a pack of pre-made album pages in png files so that it's faster and easier for you to scrap your memories.

Here are the Quick Pages:

You get one 12x12 page and one 12x24 two page spread, plus Eryn divided up the two page spread into two for two additional 12x12 page spread, basically 3 QPs at 12x12.

And, in the png album pack, she included 3 album pages and 1 cover already assembled and saved as png files so all you have to do is drop it onto your layout and create your art onto it.

Of course, we have this available as seperate kits or as a collection...

New Snaps & Scraps

I returned from a quick trip to London yesterday. We were very lucky to get really inexpensive round trip tickets a couple weeks ago (75 euros for 4 people!!! is that crazy???) so we decided to go during the kids' winter break for a 4 days. Not long but hotel prices in London make up for the cheap flights!!! I didn't bring my laptop (poor Vanessa having to deal with everything, sorry, hon!) as I knew I wouldn't have time. We did a whirlwind tour of the various markets and neighborhoods (we had been to London's tourist traps at other times) and it was fun. We did get to stop at the British National Museum and also the National Library. And it was there I got to see the Guttenburg Bible, and a few other amazing book relics. But now, it's just great to be back home.

Today, we have a gorgeous kit released at the DigiChick.

It's a fresh take on scrapbooking, whether it be paper, hybrid or digital. The colors are an amazing neutral grey with yellow counterpoints. Check out the paper:

Stationary Box with Basic Grey

I love stationary boxes and I found this awesome box online and after quite a bit of searching, found some patterns and instructions.

You can find the tutorial HERE and the pdf pattern HERE and if you want, there is a video tutorial HERE.

My biggest problem was finding the paper I wanted in 12x12 size. The pattern for this box requires 12x12 sized paper and cardstock which is difficult to find here where I live. Basic Grey at the DigiChick to the rescue! I used the Phresh and Phunky set. I also wanted this box to be sturdier than cardstock. I had some stronger cardboard from a gift box and used that as the base. I constructed the box in the cardboard first. Because of my printer size limitations (A4 is my largest size, similar to letter size), I had to play a little with the printed paper and selected paper that was a bit easier to match up. It ended up being two A4 sheets of the striped paper for the box itself, one sheet of the circles paper for the top, and one sheet of the blue grunge for the inside. The only thing I can add to the tutorial above is that if you are covering boxes, like I did, cut the paper a little larger on the edges so that you can fold over to the inside for a better finish. Also, when constructing the box itself, use a really good glue and clothespins to help hold things together while glueing.
